Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada and raised in the US. She's worked as a media critic since 1995. Feminist Frequency is a web site that hosts videos and commentaries looking at the portrayals of women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. She is the author and director of executive for Feminist Frequency an educational, non-profit website that explores representations of women in popular culture narratives. Destroying stereotypes about women are the main goals of her work. However, Sarkeesian also highlights issues related to specifically targeted harassment online against women as well as other communities who are excluded. With a master's in political and social thought at York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public presenter and has presented speech at the TEDxWomen Festival as well as at The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. At a young age, Sarkeesian was fascinated by issues of gender identity and feminist thinking. When she was still in school, in 2009 she started her Feminist Frequency website. Someone who hoped to start a web-series examining the gender-based representation in video games was targeted by an online campaign. However, the attacks did not dissuade her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a journalist who is feminist. As a result of the many achievements she's made for feministism, she's recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winning journalist. She is also the founder and director of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit organisation that studies pop culture representations of females.
